In January 2023, after 1.5 years of dedicated research and consultancy work, Mart and Berend founded Carboneers. The vision on the total CDR capacity and impact was clear. Not in the tiny developed country Netherlands, but together with partners in least developed countries with large agricultural exposure.

The future for Carboneers is brimming with growth and ambition. The team has expanded to eight members spread over India, Netherlands and US, with an ninth set to join very soon, bringing fresh energy and expertise to their mission. Their projects in India have scaled significantly, while new initiatives have taken root in Ghana, broadening their impact across two continents. Looking ahead, Carboneers has set an ambitious goal: to achieve 1 million tons of carbon sequestration annually by 2027. This target reflects their commitment to combating climate change through innovative biochar solutions, fostering sustainability, and empowering farming communities in the Global South. The journey continues, and the Carboneers team is more driven than ever to turn this vision into reality.
